Finally, my computer is back up

It's alive........alive!!!!!! My computer is connected, up, and running. I don't have anything plugged in other than the bare essentials, but at least I'm back up and running. :) Everything is still in bags and boxes piled in my room, I've been slacking a little on this unpacking stuff. I should be posting more often now that my PC is running again.

Starting to settle down in my new place

Ah.........it's Monday morning and I'm at work. I've got my new place, all my stuff are still in bags and boxes, including the 2 new small pieces of furniture I bought. I'm not looking forward to putting my computer desk or my nightstand together, but oh well. Last night was the first night I've spent in my new place, bed was comfy, took a little while to figure out how my blinds worked.

Traffic wasn't too bad today, much better than what I thought it would be, but I hear Monday mornings are always good traffic. Gotta lotta work to do tonight when I get home, and my goal is to set up my whole room tonight, from putting together my furniture to unloading the boxes. It might be a little ambitious, maybe I need 2-3 nights, but I definately would like to get my computer set up. It's been about 2 and a half weeks without my computer, and it's killing me.

Open Topic

I'll post these once in a while, for people to request topics that they'd like to see me post soon. I'll probably do this on a weekly bases, but I don't know, it's just a test.

So far on my "to post" list:
After-thoughts of BEM
True examples of Dilbertism.

Anything else anyone wants me to post, just leave a comment and I'll try to get to it as soon as I can, or feel like. Please don't make the subject too stupid.

Saturday Night Post

This being my first weekend in the DC area, I'm actually bored. I feel accomplished today. I got my brakes and oil changed. Again, now, I'm actually bored. I've been super busy throughout the week, mostly checking out places to stay. I found a house about 15 min from my work without traffic, and I got the master bedroom. I'll be sharing the house with 3 other guys around my age, so it'll be fun. With that accomplished, I'm again, bored. I've thought about driving downtown DC and exploring, but I think my first time doing that should be during daylight, and without my car being full of boxes in the backseat.

I've realized how attached I am with the Internet. I left the office Friday night, and tonight is Saturday. I am actually at work, for some personal net surfing, personal Email checking, and personal blogging, because my computer isn't set up in my new place yet. What would I do if I go somewhere on vacation where there isn't Internet at all, even for just a week? I'd go crazy.

Just realized I havn't had anything since lunch around 3PM, while waiting on my car while it's getting worked on. It's around 11:30, I'll probably go to a local bar, grab a burger, have a drink or two, and go home. Being alone on a Saturday night totally sucks, wish I was in Charlotte with my buds. Could've been drinking with the A-town boys, playing Halo with Chris and Rhea, or shooting pool with the pool players I know, or randomly visiting a friend I havn't seen in a month or two in Charlotte, but nooooooooo.............I'm at the office blogging. Am I a loser or what?

Oh well, it's only the first weekend. There're lots more weekends in DC to come, and hopefully I won't be at the office on a Sat night in a long while, unless I'm showing one of my buddies visiting me from NC how cool my office is.

New Job at Washington Post

I havn't been blogging in the past few days because I just arrived in DC over the weekend, and the corp housing has no computers. I know, whatta bummer. It's especially annoying because I'm looking for a place to stay, I've only got corp housing for 2 weeks. The apartment is beautiful, too bad I can't stay here forever.

My new job is going well, this is the 2nd day. Met some people, explored some places. So far, I'm just looking at their past data and giving suggestions on there areas that could help improve their profit. but I'm still new at this, so I'm sure I'll pick this one up pretty quickly. My office is the modern-style big office, "cubicle" type situation, but no walls to separate the people, so you get a big open office. :) I got a desk by the window. I'm on the 9th floor so I gotta great view. My postings will probably be slowing down in the next two weeks, I got lots to do no computer outside of work.

So far, so good. Visit me in DC sometime.

Drunk goodbye's to Manda and Michelle

One of the toughest things I'll miss is my friends. Today was a fun day, but also a sad day for me. I got drunk with my bud Michelle, and had Manda as our DD at Ham's restaurant. Manda, thanks again for DDing, I met you back in UNC-Charlotte, and we're still buds, friends forever. Michelle, even though I only see you once every 4-5 months, you're a real fun person to be around, and I need to be around fun people to be happy. I'll miss drinking with you. Wish I could've done it more often while I was in Gboro. Both you girls have to visit me often. I'll make sure I get a pullout couch to accommodate you girls if you come to DC, and we'll take the metro bar hopping, so nobody has to DD.
You two are the best.

Last day of BEM

Tomorrow's the last day of my job, I'll miss all my coworkers. I hope everything goings well for them in their careers. This post is dedicated to all the people I enjoyed working with in BEM, and all the coworkers I've learned so much from.

PS, whoever reads this blog from my job, just tell me "I've read your blog and you're gonna buy me lunch", and I will. :) Just don't let the word out so everyone says that to me.

Oh yeah, if I wake up early enough, I think I'll buy donuts for the office as well.

Prince of Persia 2

After 3 months, my friend Mo and I finally beat Prince of Persia 2: Warrior Within for PS2. We get together about every week or every other week, and play video games. We usually spend about 2-3 hrs each time switch off playing Prince of Persia 2 while the other one gives ideas, "Go here, no, up there, climb that wall and jump...". We finally beat it 2 days ago, it was one of the things we were determined to do before I move to DC. I feel accomplished. :)

Dedicated to Rhea, Chris, and Tara

Small circle of friends, Sat night, hanging out, just one of the many things I'll miss in DC. The girls are having fun doing drunk Karaoke (Karaoke Revolutions game for Xbox), and the guys are having fun making fun of the girls. I am kinda sad that I'll be leaving this. Life is funny sometimes, you make good friends, only to have to choose between being able to hang out with them or having a good job. Why aren't teleportation machines invented yet?

Googling my own name

I'm so excited, I'm finally ranked on my own name in Google on the first page. It's no longer some random people I've never heard of. "Paul Zhao" is currently at the bottom of the first page of the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). It's a post from an SEO group I participate in. I don't know how long my name will be ranked as the post gets "old", but let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope I stay in the first page. :)
